Ottie Barrett Obituary

Mrs. Ottie Gay Nelson Barrett, 90, of the Steelesburg section of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at her home. She was born in the Bearwallow section of Tazewell County, Va. and was a daughter of the late Otis Lee and Catherine Wagner Nelson, both Tazewell County natives. She was a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge and Cedar Bluff areas and was of the Holiness Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Fred Barrett Sr.; one daughter, Dollie K. Holmes; one son, Fred Barrett Jr.; two brothers, Andrew Jackson Nelson and Cecil Nelson; one grandson, Leslie Barrett; and one greatgrandson, Matthew Jesse. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bettie Moran and husband, James, of Christiansburg, Va., Mrs. Marie Keen and husband, Dennis, of Bandy, Va., Mrs. Elsie Griffith, of Jewell Ridge, Va.; one son, Mr. Louie Barrett and wife, Anna, of Steelesburg, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Alivia Vandyke, of Jewell Ridge, Va.; three brothers, Mr. Orville Nelson, of Bandy, Va., Mr. Marvin Nelson, of Richlands, Va., Mr. Otis Nelson, of Jewell Ridge, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; and 10 greatgreat-grandchildren. Graveside services for Mrs. Ottie Gay Nelson Barrett will be conducted Monday, November 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Delmer Somoskey officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery. Following her wishes, there will be no visitation.
