Shirley Meacham Obituary

Shirley Ten Broek Hogg Meacham, 87, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Mrs. Meacham was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., on July 19, 1921, to the late Frank Harnold Hogg and Mildred Vanderbilt Hogg. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, James Vanderbilt Hogg. Surviving are her devoted husband of 65 years, William Maxfield Meacham Jr.; three loving children, Karen Ter Haar, of New Bern Beach, N.C., Elizabeth Bursey, of Stewartsville, and William Meacham, of WinstonSalem, N.C.; sons-in-law, Fred Ter Haar and Michael Bursey; daughter-in-law, Mari Lee Meacham; adoring grandsons, William Robert Bursey, of New York, N.Y., and Michael Maxfield Bursey, of Salem, Va.; and a multitude of friends who will miss her dearly. Shirley was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. She was a talented artist, a fantastic athlete, was accomplished in the art of pottery making and Chinese penmanship, and was one of the finest cooks anywhere. During her lifetime she taught school and managed a country club. None of these talents compare to her greatest accomplishments that of mother, wife and homemaker. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the General Fund at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1831 Deyerle Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24018. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

Mr. Meacham and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I know that Mrs. Meacham was the light of your life, but know that she is now resting and not in pain. I enjoyed very much meeting her at Raleigh Court. If I can do anything please let me know.
