Verna Abbatello Obituary

Verna Cook Abbatello, 69, of Roanoke County, Va., went to be with her Lord on Thursday afternoon, November 13, 2008, at her home with her family beside her. Verna was a retired cosmetologist and was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Frances Cook; her sisters, Hazel Kinsley and Lula Chadwick; and her brother, Henry Cook. Surviving is her husband of 20 years, George A. Abbatello; her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Chuck Dangerfield, of Hardy, Patricia and Charles Arnold, of Binger, Okla., and Donna and David Culicerto, of Roanoke; her sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Barbara Abbatello, of Naperville, Ill., and John and Kara Abbatello, of Palm Harbour Fla.; her grandchildren, Kyle and David Dangerfield, Dustin and Marc Bailey, Bruce, Brandon, Jonathan, and Nathan Abbatello, Tyler Henderson, and Matt and Will Culicerto; a great-grandson, Nathan Bailey; her brothers, Walter Cook, of Troutville, Braxton Cook, of Fincastle, Gene Cook, of Indianapolis, Ind., Jerry Cook, of Roanoke, and Leslie Cook, of Vinton; her sisters, Isabel Thompson, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Dorothy Robertson, of Fincastle; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008, at St. Andrews Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas G. Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the mausoleum at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106-A, Roanoke, Va. 24018. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 16, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
