Rose Garst Obituary

Rose Lee Caldwell Garst, 75, of Roanoke, Va., was gently carried away to Heaven on Thursday, November 13, 2008, after a long 20 year battle with cancer. Born January 21, 1933, in Roanoke, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Jessie Fowler Caldwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Kincaid. Rose Lee was a strong, beautiful woman. She left behind a lifelong legacy of love and beauty. She was a wonderful wife of 57 years, and soulmate and friend for 63 years. She was a beloved mama, grandmother, "MooMoo" and greatgrandmother. She was an artist of all mediums of art. She painted and instilled beauty and life in every life she touched. Surviving are her husband of 57 years and soulmate of 63, Jack Christian Andrew Garst; daughters, Patti Lynn Garst Neikirk and husband, Bill, of Salem, and Cindee Lee Garst Hensley, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Michelle Lee Evans and husband, Brett, of Baltimore, Chadd Andrew Newman, Christopher Vance Neikirk, and Andrew William Neikirk; great-grandchildren, Hayden Andrew Joseph Evans, Marissa Lee Evans, and Brody Christian Evans; sister, Joan Kincaid, of Lynchburg; brother-in-law, Luther (Pooch) Garst Jr. and wife, Martha, of Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of the physicians and staff at Lewis Gale Hospital, especially Dr. Fintel and the 6 West staff. "Miz-pah" In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Melrose Baptist Church, 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Larry E. Sprouse. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory, 540-366-0707.
