Lola Claytor Obituary

Lola Orange Claytor, 82, of Bedford, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 15, 2008. She was born in Bedford County on Saturday, February 20, 1926 and was the last of sixteen children of the late Thomas S. "Sim" Orange and Fannie Carter Orange. She was also preceded in death by by a special grandson, Michael Davenport, seven brothers, John Orange, Houston Orange, Woodie Orange, Willard Orange, Nelson Orange, Robert Orange and Allen Orange and four sisters, Berta Merkle, Mabel Ruff Holloway, Elsie Hayes, Edith Lawson and four infant siblings. She was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation and a devoted member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church. During her retirement, she spent many hours caring for her flowers and sharing them with friends and family, especially the beautiful roses. She dearly loved her family. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carolyn Davenport and husband, Carlisle; a grandson, Steve Davenport and wife, Tamara; two great-grandchildren, Kelsie Davenport and Logan Davenport; many special nieces, nephews and friends. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Timber Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 3234 Timber Ridge Road, Bedford, VA 24523, the Bedford Christian Church Building Fund, 1928 Moneta Road, Bedford, VA 24523 or the Nicopolis United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Kim Overstreet, 1208 Junction School Road, Bedford, VA 24253. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Nicopolis United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Monday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and other times at the home of her daughter at 1700 Grand View Road, Bedford.
