Kathleen Richardson Obituary

Kathleen Williams Richardson, 90, of Cloverdale, Va., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. She was predeceased by her parents, Archer and Lucy Williams; brothers, Clinton Ray Williams and Alfred Anderson Williams; sister, Louise Elizabeth Williams; and grandson, Joseph B. (Joey) Keesee Jr.
A graduate of William Byrd High School, she attended National Business College. Her long work history included positions at Appalachian Power Company, the Cloverdale Post Office and Heironimus. An active member of Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, she served as church secretary, Sunday School teacher, on the Administrative Board and various committees, was a Deaconess, later named a Deaconess Emeritus and most active in the Lay Witness Missions. Kathleen was a charter member and past president of the Women's Gideons International, Botetourt Camp. She was a volunteer and past president of the PTA at Cloverdale Elementary. An avid cook and seamstress, she literally sewed seeds of love for her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Joseph R. (Ran) Richardson; three daughters, Phyllis R. Keesee and husband, Joe, Nancy R. Smith and husband, Kenneth, all of Culpepper, and Jean R. Dowdy and husband, Hugh, of Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren, (who knew her as "Grandma Kat") Debra K. Wayland and husband, David, Pamela D. Miller, Eric Dowdy and wife, Missie, and Scott Smith and wife, Samantha; seven greatgrandchildren, Alan and Amy Wayland, Jacob and Paul Miller and Andrew, Stone and Cassie Smith; and a niece, Donna Weeks.
Memorials may be made to Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 85, Cloverdale, Va. 24077, Gideons International, Botetourt Camp, P.O. Box 135, Daleville, Va. 24083 or the Reed Mountain Rescue Squad, 43 Eastpark Dr., Roanoke, Va. 24019.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2008, at Cloverdale Church of the Brethren. Pastor Glenn A. McCrickard will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
