Shirley Ingram Obituary

Shirley Crawford Massie Ingram, also known as GG, left Lynchburg General Hospital Thursday, November 20, 2008, for her final destination in Glory Land. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert C. Ingram, and his daughters, Joyce, Debbie, and Robin. Her daughter, Brenda Young, and her son, Vernon Massie and his wife, Lisa, are also devastated by the loss of their mother, but rejoice that she is no longer suffering. Shirley is survived by her brother, Ernest R. Crawford, Jr., and his wife Julia; and by her half-sister, Virginia Call, of Richmond. She was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren. Shirley was born May 26, 1933, however, her actual age was "thirty-nine and holding". She tenaciously held onto life, her family, her friends, and her precious Savior, Jesus Christ. She gave new meaning to the phrase "never met a stranger". Whether traveling in the motor home with Robert or just eating in a restaurant, Shirley made new friends. She was interested in everyone, concerned about their problems, and most of all wanted to make sure that everyone within her reach heard the Gospel. Shirley was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. She and Robert attended the 8:30 a.m. service, then rushed home to watch the 11 a.m. service on television. She was a former member of First Baptist of Roanoke, where she sang in the choir and has countless brothers and sisters in Christ. Touting the accolades of Shirley Ingram could go on forever and probably require an extra edition of the paper. However, it would be negligent not to mention that she was generous to a fault. She gave her money and her time in a selfless way. Finally, she made the very best macaroni and cheese on this side of Heaven. Shirley Ingram will be remembered by family and friends on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 2 p.m., at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, in Madison Heights, Va. We plan to celebrate her life and have a short fellowship after the service. Shirley requested that in lieu of flowers you would consider a contribution to The Shepherd's Staff Ministries, in Montgomery, Ala., or Daily Bread, on Clay Street, Lynchburg, Va. There is no more appropriate closing, than Shirley's own recorded phone message, "Remember, Jesus loves YOU!"

Brenda,
I am sooo sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I lost my mom on Sept. 7, so I know your pain. I'll never forget the trip to VA Beach the summer of '66 (I think). Shirley made the BEST macaroni salad I've ever had. She was always a teen at heart. Hope to see you this weekend. Love to you and all the family, Faye

My memories of Shirley are from living in the same rural neighborhood of Appomattox County while I was a child. Shirley was always very happy and always had a smile, especially after the little league football games that Vernon played in and I cheered on the sidelines, even if we lost she made us feel happy! God has truly added a new angel to his choir. May he be with the family during this time.

Love in Christ,
