Thank you all for the warm and caring thoughts you have expressed with regard to the death of Scott. For those of you who have never seen Scott and Sara's two lovely children, I thought you might enjoy this photo. Ultimately, they are the ones that we must all be concerned about at this most grievous time. They are, obviously saddened by the loss of their father, to the extent that they can comprehend such an event. Their mother, Sara; grandmother, Oma; and the many others who have taken an active role in their lives will continue to support and love them.

To Scott's Family Members,
In our living room is a beautiful photo of Scott in his dress uniform, Deirdre, Evan and Andrea that was taken shortly before his deployment to Iraq. This photo is a treasured reminder of a beautiful young family now pained with the loss of a loved one. I had the pleasure of meeting this special young man about a year ago when I visited my family in Rocky Mount. My husband and I corresponded with Scott via e-mail while he was in Iraq. He shared photos and thoughts with us. There was no fear - he simply wanted to be there with his fellow Marines and to help end this conflict. We are pleased and proud that he became part of our neice Deirdre's family and circle of friends. He chose one of the most dangerous but noblest career of all - to become a Marine in the service of his country. Deirdre, I know you will love and protect his children always. Just know that we love you and our hearts are filled with sadness over Scott's death but also a deep appreciation for having the honor of getting to know this very special young man.

To Scott's entire family, Our son Adam was on the wrestling team with Scott. Adam was two years younger than Scott and Scott was his hero! He always admired Scott and we always have too! There are no words that will take this terrible pain away and also fill this void, but just remember that in Scott's short life he had a positive impact on many people.

What a handsome and brave young man Scottie grew up to be. It seems like only yesterday when that beautiful curly blonde haired little boy was running around playing with my daughter and her cousins, usually at Pop & Pearl's house. To the family, I am so sorry for your loss, my heart aches for you all. You are all in my thoughts always.

TO Scottie's Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. It seems Scottie was a wonderful brave young man. I remember playing with him in Pearl and Maynard's yard many many years ago. We used to love walking out to the pond. He always was so kind-hearted and sweet. I am truely sorry for your loss. Please take comfort in knowing he is with our savior and will be an angel watching over you all.

Scott was one of the coolest, most sensitive, strong, and smart people I have ever met. We often had long conversations about the meaning and purpose of life. He knew how valuable it was and he LOVED his kids and family. He was a best friend to my husband and always pointed him in the right direction. I can't believe he is now in heaven-- a place we have often talked about. My husband, son, and I LOVED Scott. He was so wonderful with our little boy. I will look out for feathers, he is surely an angel now. Bless you Scott. Bless his little boy and daughter (who he let me hold while I was pregnant even before he got a chance). You will NEVER be forgotten my good friend. NEVER!

Just recently Scott and I had ran into each other through a mutual friend at Camp Lejeune. I hadn't seen him in years! And it was so good to catch up on lost time. Sam and I were very devastated to learn about Scott's passing. I can only pray that God will bring you peace, and faith, and know that you will see him again some day.

Betty and family:

Scott was like one of my own children and a brother to my son and daughers, Brian Hall, whom he wrestled with for four wonderful years at Franklin County High School under the wonderful guidance of Coach Kris Kahila and to my daughters Chelsea and Caitlyn. We loved him very much and he will always be in our hearts. He was an outstanding wrestler, a good son, husband and father and served his country proudly. He was an exceptional young man and I consider myself fortunate to have known him and maybe have touched his life in some small way.

He will be greatly missed by everyone.

With much love and respect

December 3, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
