Eva Harris Obituary

On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, Eva Mae Taylor (Sallie) Harris, of Buchanan, Va., left this earthly home to enter into her Heavenly Home to rejoin all the loving family and friends who have gone on before her. On May 20, 1932, Eva Mae "Sallie" Taylor, was born to the late Leo Taylor and Della Campbell Taylor in Buchanan, Va. She was the second born child, whose sister, Betty Taylor Welch; and two brothers, Wesley "Nubbin" Taylor, and Thomas "John Henry" Taylor (wife, Becky), survive her. Sallie was married on December 28, 1950, to Harry Bolen Harris Jr., who died on February 14, 1988. Daddy and Mama operated a local grocery store in Buchanan for over 20 years. Mama also worked at the Buchanan Elementary School for 20 + years., She and Daddy worked at the Buchanan Theatre most weekends for many years. Mama was a faithful member of the Buchanan Baptist Church for over 60 years. She especially served the children of the church as the Beginner Sunday School Class teacher for 50+ years, beginning with Mrs. Mabel Brubaker and continuing with the children's class until her death. Mama was a member of the Hazel Moon Circle, and the Mt. Joy Rebekah Lodge, serving in many officer positions throughout the years. She was also a member of the Buchanan Town Improvement Society and the Red Hat Society. Mama felt great joy in volunteering with the local Meals on Wheels program.
Survivors include her children, Vicki and Jim Eubank, and Nicki and Cindy Harris; grandson and spouse, James Edward and Crystal Eubank; and the most special lights of her life her great-grandchildren, Caleb and Olivia. There are also many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law; and other family and friends. Also, preceding her in death this past year, was her dear friend, Glenna Berry.
Mama's legacy to each of us will always be her undying love, her devotion to family and friends, her honesty, her selflessness, and her faithful service to others. Every child that was ever in her Sunday School Class, or came through her cafeteria line at school was a very special child in Mama's heart, and each was a blessing to her in every way. Mama, your love will always be felt in our hearts, and your presence will always be missed in our lives. Many special memories were made traveling around the country with "the Gang." To which, Mama's life was greatly enriched by their love and friendship.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008, in Buchanan Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Woody officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. Memorial donations are appreciated to the following, Buchanan Baptist Church Building Fund, Buchanan Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, 540-254-3000.

Aunt Sallie was the sweetest kindest woman anyone could ever ask to have in there life. She influenced so many lives and made her make on the world by touching each and every person she met. The world will be less one kind soul with out her. I had the pleasure of having her in my life for 34 years and I could not have ever ask for a better aunt. I have so many memories I could share. She was always there when you needed her. I know my family will have a hole it that no one will ever feel. Thanks for everything and all the memories Aunt Sallie you will always be here in my heart. We all miss you dearly. We love you and miss you more than words can say.

Folks,
I was both surprised and saddened to learn our dear friend, Sally, had passed on. I have lots of fond memories, some silly, some serious but all dear to me, of Sally and Harry and the store, and the school and our church, and Grandmother and Carroll Bayne and my Momma and Sally all sitting and talking on the front porch. I shall miss her dearly. Hang in there, I promise you the pain does lessen in time, and is replaced by more pleasant memories.

To the family of Sallie Harris:
Our thoughts & prayers are with you at this most difficult time. My
family fondly remembers way back when your Dad & Mom ran the grocery store and we would stop in there on our way back home to Eagle Rock after visiting with my Uncle Junior & Aunt Daisy Peery and their children who at one time lived up in "new town". My parents would buy something like a loaf of bread and then stay a while chatting with both your Dad & Mom. Even lately we would see Sallie from time to time in Buchanan and she was always her smiling, pleasant self. We will miss seeing her decorations she would put out at her home for each occasion during the year. I know she meant a lot to lots of folks in the Buchanan area and she will be sorely missed by all. It wonderful all the things she did in her lifetime. You all have so many precious memories of her I am sure. However, God knows best and He will call each of us home when the time is right. Love, the Britt Family -
