Jesse T. Woodward

1939 - 2008

Rev. Jesse T. Woodward, 87, of Bartlett, Tenn., and formerly of Blacksburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Signature Healthcare Memphis. Rev. Woodward was ordained on December 25, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tenn., and went on to pastor in Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri, Florida, Ohio, West Virginia, and finally Blacksburg, Va., at Slussers Chapel Church of God. While pastor at Memphis 1st Church of God, he married Frances Bryan Woodward on February 8, 1943. He also graduated from Anderson College, now Anderson University, in June of 1956. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2008, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008, both at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn. Rev. Woodward was preceded in death by his mother, Allene Baker; and sister, Geneva Blevins. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Bryan Woodward; and niece, Loretta (Bobby) Rutherford, of Tifton, Ga.
