Bertha Robertson Obituary

Bertha Grim Robertson, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died on Friday, December 5, 2008, at Sentara Windermere in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Robertson, 97, was born in Charles Town, W.Va., on July 15, 1911, to the late Horace P. Grim and Laura Olivia Smallwood Grim. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Robertson; her son, Gerald Vernon "Buddy" Robertson; and her brothers, H. P. Grim Jr. and Frederick Grim. Mrs. Robertson is survived by two daughters, Jo Little, of Clover, S.C., and Sue and her husband. William L. Shepheard Jr., of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Robert Voigt, Robin and his wife, Yong Ping Voigt, William and his wife, Andrea T. Shepheard, David and his wife, Natalie C. Shepheard, Stephen and his wife, Lisa S. Shepheard, Elliott and his wife, Aubrey D. Robertson, Kelly Robertson, and Damon Robertson; and 11 greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Robertson was a charter member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church, a member of the Terry Wimmer Sunday school class, the Viva Club, the Thursday Morning Music Club and a volunteer at the Roanoke Arts Center. She was graduated from Jefferson Senior High School class of 1930 and for many years held a dance for young people at the YWCA. Mrs. Robertson was a sharp bridge player. She loved and was loved by her family, "bridge buddies," and friends. Her family would like to thank the staff of Windermere for their loving care during her last days. Interment will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Evergreen Burial Park. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday at South Roanoke United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Bill Davidson. Memorial donations may be made to South Roanoke UMC at 2330 South Jefferson Street, Roanoke, Va. 24014. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100
