Gladys Stapf Obituary

Mrs. Gladys Stapf entered into eternal life at her home in Ormond Beach., Fla. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Gladys was born in Floyd Co. Va. on November 7, 1908. She was the daughter of Eula Jane Moles and C. Harris. Growing up, Gladys lived on a family farm where she had many wonderful memories of family. After high school, Gladys met Cecil Graham, who would become her first love of her life. They were married and owned and ran a general store in Shawsville, Va. Eula, her mother, took ill and moved in with Gladys and Cecil. Soon, Cecil would become ill and Gladys lost Cecil on January 5, 1946. Gladys still ran the store for many years after, caring for her mother. Gladys' store soon became a 2nd home for family and friends, which may be due to the fact that she had a telephone. In 1953, Warner O'Quinn Stapf entered her life. Warner would become her soul mate. Gladys Orlene Graham and Warner O'Quinn Stapf would marry on August 11, 1956 in Christiansburg, Va. In 1962, the Stapfs moved to Ormond Beach, where they always had time for family and friends. Gladys lost Eula on August 28, 1976 and she lost Warner in February of 1984. On November 8, 2008, Gladys had her 100th birthday party in Shawsville, Va. The party was given by Steve Watterson, Carol Watterson and Elizabeth Marsico and their families. Gladys sat and talked to scores of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins from the Musselman side, Moles side, Graham side, Kessler side, King side and Wattrerson side along with scores of friends. Gladys is survived by 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins, Steve Watterson, who she loved like a son, Rebecca and Lisa Watterson, who she loved like daughters and Elizabeth Marsico, who she loved like a sister. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday December 17, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery.
