Vada Hylton Obituary

Vada Hylton, 97, of Floyd, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Skyline Manor. She was an active member of Falling Branch United Methodist Church, a former member of the Home Demonstration Club and a 4-H Club Leader. She leaves behind many wonderful friends and neighbors whom she loved. She was a former employee of Donnkenny Mfg. of Floyd, leaving to care for her mother. She had a great sense of humor, loved to tell stories of the "Good Ole Days" and wrote poetry. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to make quilts for her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Solomon and Dora Vaughn; brother, Garver Vaughn; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bryan Childress; also by her devoted husband, Unice C. Hylton; and a loving daughter, Hazel Hylton Blackwell. Surviving are her sister, Irene Harris; sisters-in-law, Minnie Vaughn, Norene Horton, June Ferguson, Etholene Wills, Pauline Hylton; and special nephews and nieces who were so kind to visit. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Curtis Nester, Donna and Jack Simmons and son-in-law, Kenneth Blackwell; granddaughter, Deborrah (Jim) Skarbek; grandsons, Charles (Janice) Blackwell, Matthew (Kelly) Blackwell; greatgrandchildren, David North (Mary) Jackson, Dustin, C.J. Flinchum, Sage Marie Blackwell, Mackinzie and Krey Blackwell; great-greatgrandchildren, Anthony, Sarah Louise and Ethan Jackson. Our family wishes to express a special thanks to the kind and generous staff of Skyline Manor for their loving care and friendship to dad, Unice Hylton, mom, Vada Hylton and to all of our family. We also express our gratitude to Hospice Care for their kind support and care. Thank you Anna Hale for your weekly visit and Bible reading and for the visits and kindness of many neighbors and friends. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on December 14, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home with the Rev. Josh Kilbourne and the Rev. Curtis Nester officiating. Music by Dana Howell and Falling Branch Choir. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Falling Branch Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Hugh Nester, 109 Falling Branch Road NW, Floyd, Va. 24091. Our hearts go out to all of the Hylton family during this difficult time. I hope it will help to remember that she is spending the best Christmas season ever, in Heaven with Jesus and her loved ones. May God give you His peace and comfort. Our prayers are with all of you.

I work at Skyline as a CNA and the time I spent with Vada I will never forget. She was a funny, caring and loving woman who I will miss deeply. I know she is in a better place and is suffering no more. I'm very sorry for your loss and Vada will never be forgotten.
