Robert Horne Obituary

Robert Steele Horne, Sr. 84, of Rural Retreat, Va. and Greer, S.C. passed away Friday, December 12, 2008. He was born in Charleston, W.Va. on January 6, 1924 the son of the late Charles Steele Horne and Bessie Ann Barbe Horne. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired electrical engineer. He was preceded in death by a son, Franklin Wayne Horne, two brothers, James B. Horne and William G. Horne. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jean Horne of Greer, S.C.; a daughter, Gloria Jean Housman and husband John of Allen, Texas; two sons, Robert Steele, Horne, Jr. and wife Mary, Anthony Allen Horne all of Travelers Rest, S.C.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Jean Housman , Charles Robert Housman both of Allen, Texas, Sierra Jean Horne of Greer, S.C.; a brother, Bud Horne and wife Diane of Rural Retreat; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ginny Tompkins and the Rev. Brian C. Burch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites being conducted by American Legion Post # 229 of Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Blue Springs United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, Va.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Barbara and family. We wish we could be there. We are thankful that we made a trip back east in September, and was able to visit with Uncle Bob then, and that Gary was able to meet Dad's oldest brother. Take care.
