Nathaniel Slaughter Obituary

Nathaniel Albert Slaughter (Than or Nat), 76, of Pulaski, Va., passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009. He was born July 29, 1932, to the late James Albert and Juanita Slaughter in Draper, Va. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tokey L. Slaughter, four brothers, and one sister-in-law. He is survived by one daughter, Angel (Olivia) Peoples, of Pulaski; and one son, Nathaniel/Junie (Millie) Slaughter, Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; one Godchild; brothers, Douglas (Shirley) Slaughter. Draper, Va., Joseph (Tokey) Slaughter, Pulaski; one sister, Joyce (Ronald) Thompson, Woodbridge, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Peggy Slaughter, Pulaski, Lovenia Slaughter, South Orange, N.J. and Doris Slaughter, Draper; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Magazine Street. He was an active member of the VFW Post #1184 Honor Guard and was on the Board of Directors for the Hensel Eckman YMCA, he was also a member of the Baptist General Association, as well as the St. John's Lodge #35. He graduated from Christiansburg Institute, in Christiansburg, VA, New River Community College, and Virginia Union University. Than also attended Bluefield State College. After he retired with 31 years of service from Radford Army Ammunition Plant, Than became a loved team member and driver for the Pulaski Area Transit. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Online condolences can be sent to [email protected]. Final Rites entrusted to Penn's Funeral Home, Pulaski, Virginia.
