Alfio Brancati Obituary

Alfio Victor (Al) Brancati, 83, of Roanoke, Va., passed away in his home on Thursday, January 15, 2009, yielding to the cancer he valiantly battled for many years. Born on March 19, 1925, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Hector Charles Brancati and Maria Vareschi Brancati, who immigrated to the United States from Italy during the early 1900's. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Marco Victor Brancati. Al is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Elsie Marco Brancati; son, Niles Brancati and daughter-in-law, Annette, of Columbia, S.C.; son, Russell Brancati and daughter-in-law, Elisa, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; son, William Michael Brancati and daughter-in-law, Susan, of Roanoke; and son, Dean Victor Brancati and daughter-in-law, Louisa, of Roanoke. AI is also survived by his sister, Emma Brancati Preza, of Brooklyn, N.Y. Surviving grandchildren include Michael Brancati, of Columbia, S.C., Olivia, Ryan, Andrea, Sara, and Amanda Brancati, of Scottsdale, Ariz., William, Krista, Marisa, and Jack Brancati, of Roanoke, and Elizabeth and Victoria Brancati, of Roanoke. Al graduated with distinction from Renssellear Polytechnic Institute in 1951 and was employed by General Electric, from which he retired in 1985 after 35 years as a marketing manager in Schenectady, N.Y., Waynesboro, Va., Salem, Va., and Charlottesville, Va. During World War II, he proudly served as an Army Air Corpsman in the Pacific theater. The Brancati family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Bill Fintel and his staff, as well as to Good Samaritan Hospice, for the care they provided. The family will receive visitors at Oakey's South Chapel on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. and respectfully asks any memorial contributions be made in Al's honor to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24018.
