Janet Armbrister Obituary

Janet M. Armbrister, 78, of Draper, Va., died on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Carrington Place, Wytheville, Va. She was born on March 29, 1930. Janet entered the School of Professional Nursing at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and earned an RN Diploma. She then worked in the Pediatric Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., and later transferring to Petersburg General Hospital. Janet then entered the School for Nurse Anesthetists at the University of Cincinnati. After practicing anesthesia at Bluefield General Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Hospital, she finished her 35-year career at Pulaski Community Hospital. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Maude Armbrister; and a brother, George W. Armbrister. She is survived by a brother, David Armbrister and wife, Patra, of Draper; three sisters, Clara Mae Smith, of Roanoke, Va., Peg May, of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Catherine Farrell, of Evanston, Ill.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Janet was a member of Cave Springs Methodist Church, Roanoke, Va. A graveside service will he held 2 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009, at Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Bob Davis officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jane Kelley, 2968 Kirby Road, Draper, Va. 24324. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
