Oscar Johnson Obituary

Oscar Thomas (Tom) Johnson, Jr., 75, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar T., Sr. and Hattie Mulder Johnson, sister, Audrey Johnson and a brother George Johnson. Tom retired as a Master Sergeant in the U S Air Force after 21 years of service to his country. He served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Vinton in the 1970's and later served as director for RADAR Transport with the City of Roanoke. For the past 20 years, Tom operated various small businesses with his business partner, Lurty C. (Buddy) Taylor. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Jo Johnson; sons, Harry Thomas Johnson, Joey Dell Johnson and wife, Cherri; daughter, Tommie Lynn Johnson; stepdaughter, Caroline Pulido and husband, Daniel; brother, Milton (Mickey) Johnson and wife, Lorene. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home, 366-0707.
