Lura Cox Obituary

Lura Hughes Cox, 93, of Independence, Va., passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009. She was the widow of Cleve Cox. She was born on May 25, 1915, in Kirksey, Ky., to the late Alford Lee and Tellie Ezell Hughes. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Cox. She and her husband were owners and operators of Cox's Restaurant, Independence, Va., for many years. She is survived by two sons, Eddie Cox and wife, Judy, of Salem, Va., and Bobby Cox and wife, Anna, of Independence, Va.; one daughter, Carolyn C. Delp and husband, Charles, of Elk Creek, Va.; sister, Sue Hughes, of Murray, Ky.; and brother, Joe Hughes and wife,Lil, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Shane Edwards, Edwynna Meganbauer, Misty Cassell, Lori Vaught; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five, stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Va. Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009, in Brush Creek Baptist Church, Independence, Va., with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eddie Roland will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour preceding the service. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, c/o Mike Sneed, P.O. Box 922, Independence, Va. 24348. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., is serving the Cox family.
