Ruby is survived by her sister-in-law, Pauline Morris; niece, Ellen Deane and her husband, Carroll; niece, Barbara Ballard and her husband, Wayne; and nephew, Steve Morris and his wife, Sharon. She is also survived by six great-nieces and nephews; as well as 12 great-grand nephews. As a young adult she attended Bridgewater College. Later she moved to Roanoke, Va., and worked for Shenandoah Life Insurance Company. She spent many hours visiting the elderly. Ruby attended Central United Brethren Church where she kept the nursery for over 30 years. She loved to travel and was active in the local Pilot Club. Ruby moved back to Stanardsville seven years ago and attended Stanardsville United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Stanardsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Catharine Guest officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests donations be made to the Evergreene Activities Fund, 422 William Mills Drive, Stanardsville, Va. 22973 or a charity of one's choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Evergreene Meadows, Dr. Brooke Bostic and Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care. Ruby was a good friend and a fellow member of Central Church of the Brethren. She meant a lot to me and to all the children that grew up in her tender and loving care. We have missed her.

Ruby was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. I worked with her at Shenandoah Life, and I still have and use the meatloaf recipe she gave me years ago. My deepest sympathies.
