Luther Giles Obituary

Luther Langston (Luke) Giles Sr., 77, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Saturday, January 24,2009, at his home with his long time life partner by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Luke retired from Kroger's after 32 years of service. He was an avid gardner, he enjoyed deep sea fishing, taking long walks to the park with Kathy and their pet, Smokey, and eating out. Luther was the son of the late William and Janie Giles, of Danville. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Nathaniel, Bill and Charlie; sisters, Myrtle and Louise; an ex-wife, Virginia Giles; and a son, Jerry Giles. He is survived by his long time life partner, Kathy Bradley, of Roanoke; daughters, Lydia Gibson and husband, Charles, of Blairs, Va.; Rita Giles, of Danville, Va., and Audrey Robertson, of Danville Va.; sons, Luther Langston Giles Jr. and wife, Lee, of Danville Va., and Gene Giles, of Danville, Va.; and numerous grandchildren. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their care and support through his long battle with cancer. Friends may call on the family at 540-774-6189. I am a former Kroger employee and remember Luther. He would make be laugh at silly little jokes. My prayers are with the family.

I was a neighbor of "Gill's" and always enjoyed talking to him as he walked "Smokey" to the park. I know he is at peace and no longer in pain. My thoughts and prayers are with Kathy.
