Luther Fowler Obituary

Luther Douglas (Doug) Fowler, 76, of Wytheville, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. He was born on November 5, 1932, in Wythe County, son of the late Nelson Price and Ethel Mabry Fowler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Fowler; two brothers, Roy and Lewis Fowler; and a sister, Ruth Shepherd. Doug was retired from American Bakery with 31 years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of IVA #173 IOOF and American Legion Post #9. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Clinton Webb, of North Augusta, S.C., and Jackie and Gary Hughes, of Marion, Va.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Karen Fowler, of Augusta, Ga., Tony and Melissa Fowler, of Speedwell, Va., Anthony "Pogo" and Teresa Fowler, of Wytheville, Va., Danny and Jeanne Fowler, of Wytheville, Va., and Jeff and Jerri Fowler, of Hamburg, Pa.; one brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Frances Fowler, of Riner, Va.; 12 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends and neighbors also survive. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Elder Jim Cox officiating. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009, in West End Cemetery. American Legion Post #9 will conduct Graveside Military Rites. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

I am very sorry to hear about Luther passing on. I found out just recently from Arnold Fowler. I met Luther back in 2001 and he was truely a great person.

I know he will be missed greatly by all his family and friends who were so close to him
