Georgine Rice

Georgine Rice, 84, of Troutville, Va., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. She was a member of Three Oaks Fellowship United Methodist Church, formerly Belmont, and was active in work at the church. She retired from J.C. Penney after many years service. Our Mom was our rock, nurturer, nurse, counselor and teacher of life's lessons. She loved her roses and took great joy in God's gift of their beauty. She was the widow of Robert M. Rice Sr.; and was preceded in death by her father, George D. Craig; mother and stepfather, Mamie M. and Walter D. Settle; stepbrother, Frank Settle; and stepsister, Hazeltine Wheat. She was the beloved mother of Roberta Kotz and husband, Ron, of Vinton, Diane Whittaker and husband, Newt, of Fincastle, Donna Price and husband, Danny, of Roanoke, Becky Eanes and husband, Johnny, of Troutville, and Robert "Pete" Rice Jr. and wife, Jana, of Roanoke. There are 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren that also survive. Funeral services will be held noon on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Debra Lucas officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30, 2009, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
