Betty Turner Obituary

On Saturday, January 31, 2009, Betty K. Turner, of Roanoke, Va., went, as she was fond of saying, "to her great reward" where joined the love of her life, her husband of 55 years, Robert (Bob) Turner. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Norma Kues. Betty was born on December 9, 1921, in Tampa, Fla., and grew up in Logan, W.Va., before moving to Roanoke as a teenager. She was a long time member of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church. She will be sorely missed by a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Virginia Kues of Smithfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Elisabeth (Lis) Turner, of Richmond, Margaret (Maggie) and Larry Mills, of Bedford, and Shelley and Roger Campbell, of Troutville; and grandchildren, Edward Dale, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Nathan Dale of Newport News, Carroll Martin, of Arlington, and Catherine Martin, of Lynchburg. The family would like to thank the staff of Campbell Rest Home in Bedford and Betty's care givers, Barbara Crowder, Theresa McBride and Diane Hallauer for making her comfortable during her final days. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Larry Mills officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Betty was a great lover of animals; she and Robert were also a faithful delivery team for Meals on Wheels. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local SPCA, Meals on Wheels, 706 Campbell Avenue, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24016 or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
