I met Barb through Literacy Volunteers in Roanoke. She was always willing to help and she was a dedicated tutor. We became friends over the years and enjoyed talking about food, politics, books, cats, growing tomatoes. I will keep the recipes she gave me written in her perfect handwriting...and I will miss her.

My thoughts are with you during this time of loss. I was fortunate to work with Barb at Gray Plant Mooty, and she was delightful. She was a wealth of knowledge, and despite her workload or the stress of her day, she was always calm. I know she will be missed by many, many people.

I had the pleasure of working with Barb at Gray Plant Mooty in Minneapolis for several years. When I was having a bad day, Barb’s wit and sense of humor was always appreciated . I remember the time she fell and hurt herself over her lunch hour. I went to the hospital to visit her and she said, "I'm listening to the questions other patients are being asked so I can memorize the answers and get out of here."

She was always thinking of others, especially her daughter, Athena. I admired her parenting skills and will always remember her fondly.

Barb and I worked together for nearly ten years. She was an excellent legal assistant, devoted employee, and, most importantly, friend. She was always cheerful at work and had many interests. A big Twins fan, she was thrilled by the two world championships in 1987 and 1991. Barb was very interested in many topics including politics and entertainment. She was extremely popular in the office and had many friends. Barb was a pleasure to work with and be around. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her lovely daughter. She was a great friend and will be missed enormously.

I was lucky enough to work with Barb for a couple of years on the annual book sale for Literacy Volunteers of the Roanoke Valley. Barb made the work fun. She was so well read and was interested in so many subjects. I admired the variety of community service activities in which she was engaged, especially her tutoring of immigrants learning to speak and read English. I will miss Barb as will many others.

I was an acquaintance of Barb Carraher. We met when we were both working to save the Grandin Theatre. She used to walk by my house in Raleigh Court on her way to the branch library, and sometimes we would chat. I will miss her.
