Thelma Hartley Obituary

Thelma Leola Dudley Hartley, 84, of Buchanan, Va., peacefully slipped from the bonds of our world and immediately awoke in her Heavenly home to rejoin her husband, Robert Raymond Hartley; and her parents, Thomas James and Susie Mae Goodwin Dudley; and niece, Shirley Hartley Trimble, on Thursday, February 5, 2009. Nana retired from Groendyk Manufacturing of Buchanan after 28 years service and had been a member of Virginia Presbyterian Church for over 55 years. She traveled and enjoyed an independent lifestyle until she suffered a stroke in November 1996. The family wishes to thank all that took part in her care especially Friendship Healthcare Center.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Hartley and E. Thomas "Tommy" Wright, of Buchanan, and Barbara "Bobbi" Hartley and I. Ray Sloan, all of Buchanan; grandchildren, Christopher David and Barbara J. Wright, Karen Faith Conner, and Kevin Michael Conner and girlfriend, Katie Sloan; greatgrandchildren, Kayla Nicole Lugar, Hannah Marie Wright, and Coleton Hartley Wright; special nephews and nieces, Andrew and Linda Hartley, Pat H. and Johnnie B. Eubank; and her extended families of Virginia Presbyterian Church and Botetourt Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2009, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Terri L. Slate, the Rev. Marina Gopadze, and Mr. Mark Dayton officiating. Interment will follow beside her husband in Fairview Cemetery~Buchanan.
Those wishing to make a contribution please consider the Virginia Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 328, Buchanan, Va. 24066. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, Va., 540-254-3000.

I'll always remember slipping across the field to go to Nana's house. It hasn't quite been the same up here since she moved. I suppose one day we'll all get to sit on the carport and reminisce. Much love and sympathy.
