Evelyne Lewis Obituary

Evelyne Marvine Hodges Hawks Lewis, 92, of Lynchburg and formerly of Eden, N.C., passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 in Runk & Pratt Nursing Home in Lynchburg. She was the widow of her first husband, Eldridge William Hawks, Jr. and her second husband, John Ray Lewis. Born July 21, 1916 in Eden, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Ernest Marvin and Mollie Odell Hawks. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eden, N.C. and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a retired secretary with Norfolk-Southern Railroad. She is survived by her daughter, Mollye Hays and her husband Joe of Forest; two grandchildren, Emily Hays of Lynchburg and LeAnne Hays of Falls Church. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Marvin Hodges, Jr. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Dan G. Mason officiating. The family will receive friends one hour after the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Roanoke, VA at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Alzheimer's Association, 605 Clay Street, Lynchburg, Va., 24504.
