Silas Collins Obituary

Silas Daniel (Dan) Collins, 72, of Salem, Va., passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. He was formerly of California. Mr. Collins is predeceased by his parents, Roy E. Collins and Ella Talliaferro Collins; and his wife, Joetta Rae. He is survived by his son, Bobby Lee Collins (Connie), of Jacksonville, Fla.; three stepchildren; brother, Walter C. Collins (Toni), of Corpus Christi, Texas; and sisters, Ella C. "Coozie" Mt. Cassell (Pete), and Dotty Collins, of Salem, Va.; two nieces; one nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews. Dan is also survived by his loving companions, Ginger and Cinnamon. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are to be conducted 1 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009, from the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Mt. Cassell Cemetery in Salem. The Collins family is being served by Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1609 Peters Creek Road, N.W., Roanoke, Va., 540-562-1182.

We were classmates together in the eighth grade at Andrew Lewis High School, along with sister Dorothy. Silas was a nice person and had a great personality. Adelene Craghead Kirby, Floyd, VA.
