Ocie Meyers Obituary

Ocie Ola Ratcliffe Meyers, of Martinsville, Va., loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother slipped into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Born in Pulaski County, Va., on June 10, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Burwell Harvey and Mary (Mollie) Catherine Ratcliffe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Gilbert Franklin Meyers; and brother, James Silas Ratcliffe. She became a Christian at an early age in the Carter Street Methodist Church in Radford, Va. Mrs. Meyers worked for J. Freezer & Sons, Inc. in Radford, Va. She was known for her hospitality and good cooking, especially her coconut cakes. Her whole life was centered around serving others. Mrs. Meyers was the oldest member of Villa Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by her only child, Alda Meyers Draper and husband, Bobby, of Figsboro; grandson, Kyle Draper and wife, Kathy, of Roanoke, Va.; great-grandson, Kasey Draper; and great-granddaughter, Kyleen Draper, of Roanoke, Va. Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to family and a very special group of friends for their support, love, devotion and caring for Ocie through all the years, but especially in her last years and days. Special thanks to Pastor Keith Spangenberg for his support, calls, e-mails, visits, prayers and years of love and service. The family appreciates the extraordinary care, kindness and love shown by the staff of Fork Mountain Rest Home during Ocie's time there. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Villa Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Spangenberg officiating. Burial will be held 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Westview Cemetery in Radford, Va. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Villa Heights Baptist Church and other times at the home, 62 Workshop Road, Martinsville, Va. Memorials may be made to Villa Heights Baptist Church, 150 Corse Avenue, Martinsville, Va. 24112. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Martinsville, Va., is serving the Meyers family. Alda, Bobby and Family,
Ocie will be missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Wish I could come down with Grandpa, Dad and Tom Thursday but it is tax season for me and we are very busy. Hope to see you all soon.

Aldah & Bobby& Family I know its hard to give Ocie up, and it breaks our hearts as well. The times we have shared over these many years will always hold a special place in my heart. Your Dad & Mom were both very special people and will be greatly missed by all who knew them. I often think about all the great times we had when we came down or you all came up to visit us. Will see you on thursday or prayer and thoughts are with you at this time. If you need anything please let us know.
