Pattie Shelton Hodges

Pattie Shelton Hodges, 81, of Hurt, Va., passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Avante at Lynchburg Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born October 23, 1927, in Pittsylvania County to the late Reuben Shelton and Anis Shelton. She was also predeceased by her husband, Jack Hodges; sons, Dennis S. Hodges and Jackie S. Hodges; a granddaughter, Casey Hodges; a daughter-in-law, Wanda B. Hodges; sisters, Linda Shelton, and Eleanor Layne; and a brother, Marshall C. Shelton. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and ran a day care center in her home for many years. Pat lived the last four years at Valley View Retirement Community in Lynchburg and enjoyed her friends and time there. Aside from being a big fan of Virginia Tech athletics, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, and golf. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Lambert, of Hartsville, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Sharon Hodges, of Hurt, Carey Hodges, of Hickory, N.C., and Stanley and Linda Hodges of Wytheville; a daughter-inlaw, Sarah Hodges, of Homestead, Fla.; sisters, Helen S. Andrews, Azile S. Delpierre, Phyllis S. Parker, Gypsy S. Shelton, and Wanda S. Shelton; brothers, Charles Shelton and Cecil Shelton; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009, at New Prospect Baptist Church in Hurt, Va., by the Rev. Brady Willis. The family will have a private interment. The family will receive friends at New Prospect Baptist Church on Sunday one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or to New Prospect Baptist Church, P.O. Box 547, Hurt, Va. 24563. Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
