Mary Wood Ramsey

Mary Wood Ramsey, 66, of the 5900 block of Bertrand Street, died February 18, 2009, in Portsmouth. A native of Amherst County, Va., she was preceded in death by her parents, James Vawter and Berta Beverly Wood; and a brother, Bobby Wood. Mrs. Ramsey worked with the Chesapeake School Board, was a member of Good News Baptist Church and loved her flowers. Survivors include her husband, Hansford "Hank" G. Ramsey; three sons, Kenneth F. Rowsey and wife, Betsy, of Gates, N.C., Ronald A. Rowsey and wife, Mary, of Seneca Rocks, W.Va., and Hansford "Hank" G. Ramsey II; one daughter, Donna Michelle Walters, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Doris Turner, of Buena Vista, Va.; two brothers, Herman Wood and Eugene Wood, of Buena Vista; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Good News Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Va. by Dr. Walt Coles. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk, Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a visitation at Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Service in Buena Vista on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, Buena Vista.
