Raymond Lucas Obituary
Raymond Herbert Lucas, 85, of Narrows, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 at his home. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on June 25, 1923 and was the son of the late Charlie William and Edna Wilkinson Lucas. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Muriel Maxine French Lucas, a sister, Peggy Ann Myrick, and a brother, William (Willie) Lucas. He served two tours of duty in the United States Army, one during World War II, and again shortly after the war. He was a retired employee of Hercules, Inc., working at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 31 years, and was a life member of VFW Post #6000 of Narrows. He loved fishing and hunting. He is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Mullins and husband, Eddie, of Narrows; two sons, Charles H. (Chuck) Lucas and wife, Jean, of Ballard, West Virginia, and Steven R. Lucas, of Narrows; eight grandchildren, Angela Renee Harvey, Kimberly Ann Mullins, Angela Trenar, Christopher Gusler, Charlie Gusler, Raymond Gusler, Janet Blankenship and Amber Dunn; six great-grandchildren, Chelsey Harvey, Austin Harvey, Huntar Trenar, Dixi Trenar, Brandon Blankenship, and Justin Blankenship; a sister, Carol Blizzard, of Glenwood, Maryland; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two very special friends, Roger Browning and Eddie Christian. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with Pastor Bobby Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Post #68 of Narrows, Post #311 of Pembroke and Post #145 of Peterstown.
