Karen Johnson Obituary

Karen Inez Marshall Johnson, 58, of Alleghany St., in Pearisburg, Va., went to join her Lord Saturday morning, February 21, 2009, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Bluefield, W.Va. on November 2, 1950, she was a daughter of Inez Outland Marshall, of Narrows, and the late Robey Taft Marshall. She was a member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows. The joy of her life was going to church and being involved. She taught Sunday School, was Secretary/Treasurer and Missionettes and Royal Rangers Leader. She enjoyed working with children and loved to see children that didn't have as much have a great time. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed taking her troop on trips. An employee of Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Rich Creek and Pearisburg and formerly at McLean Pharmacy in Pearisburg, she enjoyed the retail business and the many friends she met as customers and fellow employees. She also enjoyed crafting, painting, canning and baking. She leaves to cherish her memory, the love of her life for the last 40 years, Charles William Johnson; a very loving daughter, Jennifer Jenene Johnson, of Pearisburg, and her boyfriend, Scottie Cales, of Christiansburg; a special sister, Sandra Mullins, and brother-in-law, Dewayne Mullins, of Narrows; nephews and nieces that were like her own children; sisters-in-law, Cathy Thompson, of Pearisburg, Sandra Hicks and Bob, of Buchanan, Va., Ellen Ratcliffe and Roy, of Princeton, W.Va.; brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson and Barry Johnson, of Roanoke, Dewey Wilson and Janice, of Fieldale; a special cousin, Henrietta Marshall (baby sis) and many more special special cousins. Her family meant a lot to her from sister to distant relative. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church on College Ave., in Narrows, with Pastor John Jenkins and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Karen has suggested that contributions be made to Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church. Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is serving the Johnson family. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com.

I still remember Karen giving out the awards for the missionettes at church and crying over each one of the little girls, she loved them so much and poured her life into them. She is such a blessing, and will continue to be in heaven now! I'm so glad I was blessed to know her.

I have known and loved this beautiful person for many years. She was a precious friend and classmate (Giles High Class of 1969). Karen has forever had a gentle, loving spirit. Her sweetness and goodness had a way of wrapping around you and lifting you up no matter what the circumstance. I'll miss this sweet angel. My prayers go out to her family.
