Warren Overstreet Obituary

Warren Guy Overstreet Jr., 81, of Moneta, died Monday, February 23, 2009 at his home. He was born in Bedford County on January 28, 1928, a son of the late Warren Guy Overstreet Sr. and Vivian Holdren Overstreet. Warren was a good man who loved his Lord, his family, his church and his friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, William R. Overstreet, Ralph Dean Overstreet, Randolph Overstreet and Greenwood Overstreet, one sister, Aurelia O. Eubank. He was a member of Chamblissburg Baptist Church and a Navy veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Allen Overstreet; a son, Warren Guy Overstreet III and his wife, Jennifer, of Richmond; a daughter, Dianne O. Webb and husband, Tom, of Greenville, N.C.; six grandchildren, T.W. Webb and wife, LouAnne, Heather Edwards and husband, Shane, Holly Entzminger and husband, Danny, Claire Overstreet, Byron Overstreet and Ian Overstreet; and seven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Valleda Dennis and husband, Jimmy; Sheron Cheek and husband, Roger, numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Bibles International, 609 36th St. S.E. Grand Rapid, Michigan 49548-2317. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Chamblissburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Scoggins and the Rev. John Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Burch-Messier Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 317 W. Main St., Bedford, 540-586-7360.

It was a very sad day for me, when I heard of the loss of this great family-man. I had the honor to work side by side with him for almost 10 years and learned so much from Warren. He was honest, thoughtful & caring and a mentor to me in many ways. It is rare to find a man of his character and integrity. I know his family will miss him dearly, but will surely see him one day in heaven. My prayers are with you.
