Hattie Brown Obituary

Our beloved wife and mother transitioned to be with the Lord on the morning of March 7, 2009. She quietly slept away and answered the Master's call to accept her new assignment in Heaven. We love her so much and will greatly miss her; but it comforts us to know that she is in God's care and that one of her new assignments will be to watch over us as our guardian angel. Hattie Mae Price Brown, of Roanoke, Va., was born on January 22, 1924, to the late Dan and Cloella Price. She was born in Maybeury, W.Va. She met the love of her life, Lawrence, and they were married on November 25, 1942. They were married for 66 years and worked together to build their lives and dreams together. Seven children were born from their union-Ronald, Carol, Milton, Michael (deceased), Larry, Kenneth and one infant who died at birth. She was affectionately called "Tootsie" and "The Hat Lady" because she loved to wear hats. She accepted our Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Mt. Mariah Missionary Baptist Church in Maybeury, W.Va. She was a very active member there until she, Lawrence, and their children relocated to Roanoke, Va. She later joined Maple Street Baptist where she was a member for approximately 50 years. She retired from Shenandoah Life Insurance Company where she was head dietician. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Lawrence of the home; and their children, Ronald (Vernice), Carol (Clarence), Milton, Larry (Thelma), and Kenneth; one sister, Virgie Reid; two sistersin-law, Virginia Douthit and Emily Maye; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a very dear friend and caregiver, Sylvia Coleman; and a host of other relatives and friends also survive her. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Maple Street Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Calloway officiating and the Rev. Ron Brown eulogist. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Friends may call on Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 2009, for viewing at HamlarCurtis Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.

To the Family of Mrs. Hattie Brown,

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve the lost of your wife and mother.

When I first moved to Roanoke in 1974 I worked at Shenandoah Life Ins. Co. What I remember most was the wonderful lunches that were prepared each day. For me eating in the cafeteria was the best meals I had all week, thanks to Mrs. Brown and her staff.

May God keep you in His care.
