Michael Byrd Obituary

Michael (Mike) Byrd, 54, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Friday, March 6, 2009. He is the son of the late George and Vada Smith Byrd and was also preceded by two sisters, Angela Wade, Linda Faye White and a brother, Larry Edmonds. Mike owned and operated VirginiaCarolina Paint Company for 25 years before becoming disabled. One of his proudest moments of his life is when he became known as "Poppa" to his grandchildren. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, (Cookie) Anita C. Byrd; children, Jason Michael Byrd, Amanda June Byrd, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Nevaeh Katherine, Sincere La'Sane; sisters, Juanita Sue Hart, of N.C., Tammy Hillard, of Pa.; brother, Willie Henry Edmonds, of Blue Ridge; two sisters-in-law; one brother-inlaw; and a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends; and special friend, Jennifer Lemon. The family would like to thank the 8th floor nurses at RMH for their care and support during this time. Special thanks to Harry Hairston R.N. Friends may visit with the family for fellowship Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Arrangements handled by Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory, 540-366-0707.

Sorry aunt Cookie and cousins for your loss. I can't imagine how you feel. I was not able to come up this weekend but am very glad I came last weekend to see uncle Mike. I'm praying for you and for the rest of our family. My church is praying for you also. I love you and I miss you all.
