Wilton Shorter Obituary

Wilton Rogers Shorter, 69, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2009. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Mountain Lodge No. 140 A.F.& A.M., a member of the Retread Motorcycle Club and a member of the Roanoke Banjo and Fiddle Club. He was a member of the Rapps Mill Community Church and was a United States Air Force veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorene Shorter and a son, Darrell Rogers Shorter. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Ann Shorter; a son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Tammy Shorter, of Boones Mill; two grandchildren, Amy and Derek Shorter; brother and sister-in-law, C. W. "Buck" and Carole Shorter, of Lexington; also are a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Friendship Health and Rehab Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for all their care. Funeral services will be with Masonic Rites at Oakey's North Chapel 10 a.m. Wednesday March 11, 2009, with the Rev Stafford Frederick officiating. Interment will be in Rapps Mill Church Cemetery in Rockbridge County. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday March 10, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
