David Arnott Obituary

David Gordon Arnott, 54, of Blacksburg, Va., died on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va. David was born February 22, 1955, in St. Louis, Mo., to Gordon John and Beverly Lou Hadsell Arnott. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dinah Hoffman Arnott; his children, Mary Lindsey Arnott, of Radford, Va., Gordon David Arnott, of Richmond, Va., Travis Paul Arnott and Allison Elizabeth Arnott, of Blacksburg, Va.; sister, Ann Arnott Cook and husband. Tim, of O'Fallon, Mo.; uncles, Bruce Arnott and wife, Nancy, of Dearborn, Mich., and Richard Hadsell and wife, Kathy, of Gretna, Neb.; aunts, Margaret Hadsell, of Napoleon, Ohio, and Joyce Hadsell DeKanter, of Mexico City, Mexico; cousins, Cheryl Arnott Hoeneise, of Warren, Mich., and Douglas Arnott, of Dearborn, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Eugene Hoffman and wife, Sylvia, and Carroll Hoffman and wife, Lucille; sister-in-law, Anne Hoffman Winn and husband, John, all of Gordonsville, Va.; nieces, Katy Cook, Ginger Garton, and Kristin Rider; nephews, Andy Hoffman, Jeff Hoffman, Johnny Winn, David Winn and Bill Hoffman; and numerous great-nieces, greatnephews and other cousins.
David graduated in 1974 from Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Mo., earned a bachelors degree from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C., a masters degree from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, Ark., and was employed as an engineer. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the U.S. Nuclear Submarine Service and a member of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.
David was an avid reader and golfer and enjoyed sports, fantasy games and sci-fi shows but most of all his wife "Dinah My Dove," their four children, his family and extended family.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Blacksburg, Va., with Susan Verbrugge and Catherine Snyder officiating. Private interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, Va., Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Radford, Va., Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center Team and MICU at the University of Virginia Medical Center, and to the many friends who have shown acts of kindness during David's illness.

I knew Dave from Kirkwood High.I haven't talked to him for a very long time however he has always been in my thoughts. He was a GOOD man. He loved to laugh, go to concerts, and ice skate.He loved to joke and play tricks with his many high school friends. You will always have a peice of my heart Dave.
