Dominic Matherly Obituary

Dominic Neal (Nicky) Matherly, 55, of Penhook, Va., died Sunday, March 8, 2009. He was a member of Forrest Hill Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll L. Matherly; nephew, Walker Edwin Shank; and grandparents, Roy and Kate Matherly and Lenard and Helen Walker. Surviving are his mother, Genny Walker Matherly; daughter, Christine Danielle Blankenship; special friend, Jennifer K. Reynolds; sister, Sandra Matherly Shank and husband, Ralph Shank Jr.; nephew, Taylor Carroll Shank; and several aunts, uncles and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, from Forrest Hill Christian Church with Minister Ted Clifton and Mr. Stewart Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Forrest Hill Christian Church, 13181 Snow Creek Road, Penhook, Va. 24137 or a charity of the donor's choice. Dear Sandra:
I too remember Nicky in school. He was two years older than me, but I remember how pretty his smile was standing at his locker. I remember he was always surrounded by lots of friends. I am very sorry for the loss of your brother.

Jennifer, Ginny And Sandra,

I am so sorry for the loss of Nicky,he was a great guy. his smile was worth a million bucks and he made a loving friend and he will be missed by so many.
Jennifer, I've got to tell you about my last conversation with Nicky. He had come back form one of your doctor visits and was waiting while you was in the tanning bed and I ran into him. I ask how you was and he grinned for ear to ear and said you was great. He told me of your surgery and said you didn't need that because you was beautiful just the way you was! He started talking about you telling me you was his best friend and you was there for him when no one else was, that you knew what he was thinking & feeling before he knew and that was really scary! He told me you was his heart and soul and the most wonderful person he had ever knew. There are a few other things he said and I'll tell you when I get to see you. Just know he loved you and appreciated everything you ever did for him. He told me you was the one that took care of him after all his wrecks!That day he also said he would have been dead years ago if it wasn't for you so hold on to every memory and cherish it but don't stop living! He will never die because he will live in all our hearts forever! You know, I look back on that day and Nicky and I have been friends since we was wee little ones and we remaind frieds over all these years and we have had some heavy conversations before but none compared to this one! I'm glad I had a little place in his heart and we could share these things! Now I can share a few of them with you. He took mine with him! Never to be told!
