Charles Jehu Painter

Charles Jehu Painter, 84, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. He was born September 27, 1924, in Pearisburg, Va., and was the son of the late Issac Chapman Painter and Latta Wheeler Painter. Three brothers and three sisters predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Frances Martin Painter; by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Joseph H. Philpott Jr., of Martinsville, Va., and Catherine (Cathy) and Michael L. Hutchison, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and his grandsons, Todd Hutchison, of Alexandria, Va., and Joseph H. Philpott III, of Richmond, Va. Survivors also include his sister-in-law, Pat Painter, of Fairlawn, Va.; his brother-in-law, Richard E. Martin and his wife, Joe Ann, of Roanoke, Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews. He served in the United States Army during World War II, was self-employed, and was a member of First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with Dr. Bryan E. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park, Route 220 North, Rocky Mount, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Flowers will be gratefully accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
