Bobbie Flagg

Bobbie Flagg, 75, of Salem, Va., passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Stafford, Va. Ms. Flagg was born and raised in Roanoke, Va. She was a retired federal employee who during her many years with the government worked for the Departments of Defense, Commerce and the Treasury. She loved cooking, gardening and going to the movies, and above all she loved her family. She was predeceased by her mother, Mildred Hoyle; her brother, Ralph Hoyle Sr.; and her foster sister, Mary Harvey. She is survived by her sons, Michael O'Neil Kennedy, of Salem, and Christopher Douglas Kennedy, of Washington, D.C.; as well as her daughter, Elizabeth Kennedy Coy and her loving son-in-law, Billy Coy, of Stafford; granddaughter, Katharine Kennedy Rucker and husband, Marc, of Roanoke; grandson, Joshua Coy, of Winchester, Va.; greatgrandsons, Thomas and Grant Rucker; sister-in-law, Martha Hoyle; niece, Kay Hoyle Totten; nephew, Wayne Hoyle; and numerous cousins, one of whom, Jay "Junior" Overholt, provided much assistance during her illness. The family wishes to thank Ms. Flagg's caregivers Denise Kelly, Carol Overholt, Julia Murphy and various workers from Mary Washington Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at St. James Episcopal Church, 4515 Delray Street, N.W., Roanoke, with the Rev. Susan E. Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
