Terrell Spangler Memoriam

In Loving Memory of Terrell Clifton SPANGLER October 1, 1912 June 29, 2008
Terrell Clifton Spangler was a grandson of 1st Lt. Clifton Hill Spangler and Mary Peery Spangler, and of Lewis James Welch and Sally Mundy Welch; a son of Manassas Pendleton Spangler and Mary Susan Welch Spangler, all of the Springwood area of Botetourt County, Va.
Terrell's parents with his older brother and sister relocated to West Virginia where Terrell was born in Meadow Fork, Fayette County, W.Va. Soon afterwards, the family moved back to Springwood, Botetourt County, Va., where four more brothers and another sister were born into the family.
Terrell grew up into manhood in the Springwood area, having gone to school in the Tintop school building on Rt. 43 and other buildings in the area and then to the Buchanan schools.
Terrell was a faithful member of the Baptist Church in Springwood, and was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
In 1935 the family moved to Glasgow, Va. Terrell became employed by Lees Carpet Company and became a foreman in the finishing department.
He was a World War 11 veteran, serving in the Navy on the LST 573 in the South Pacific. He drove the landing boat that transported the troops from the ship to the beaches. He was in nine such battles, plus other missions.
He was a faithful member of the Glasgow Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for more than 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Glasgow Fire Department.
After retirement from Lees Carpet, he worked as a ticket taker for the Natural Bridge of Virginia for 19 years.
Terrell liked making crafts and was interested in things of nature.
