George Skillen Welch Jr.

George Skillen (Junior) Welch Jr., 82, of Buchanan, Va., died on Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Junior worked at James Lees and Sons Company for 28 years and retired from Ingersoll Rand. He was an avid farmer and gardener for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Skillen Sr. and Gladis Spangler Welch; wife, Janie Ann Landes Welch; son, Kevin Welch; grandson, Ronald Welch; brothers and sisters, Goldie Mae Falls, Major Welch, Ruth Spangler, Jean Booze, Sylvia Fitzgerald, and Louis Welch. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Wayne and Peggy Welch, of Troutville, and Jeffrey Scott and Pam Welch, of Buchanan; grandchildren, Rechelle Welch, Brandon Welch, and Justin Bryant; great-grandchildren, Ashton Toler and Annakia Welch; greatgreat-grandchildren, Trystin Walker and Rylee Nicole Toler; brother, Leonard Welch and his wife, Ruth; and sister, Nadine Aaron, all of Buchanan. Special thanks to Pam Crabb, Heartland Home Health, and the local rescue squads for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Clingenpeel officiating. Interment will follow in Springwood Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan, Va., 540-254-3000.
