William Newman Obituary

William E. Newman, 74, of Spotsylvania County, Va., passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home. Bill served over 20 years in the United States Air Force in the communications field. When he retired in 1975, he had attained the rank of Tech Sergeant and was working as a cryptologist. After retiring from the Air Force in 1975, Bill went on to work for the Federal Government in the communications field working at the Federal Reserve, State Department and eventually retiring from the Pentagon in 1996. He was a member of the Massaponax Baptist Church where he and his wife, Carol, renewed their wedding vows in 2005 for their 48th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife Carol, Bill is survived by a son, Mark Newman and his wife, Esperanza, of Plano, Texas; his daughter, Melody Newman Seay and her husband, Buck, of Spotsylvania; two brothers, Ralph D. Newman and his wife, Judy, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Donald W. Newman, of Pulaski, Va.; a sister, Nancy Jo Newman, of Williamsburg, Va.; and four grandchildren, Wilson, Thomas and Austen Seay and Ashley Newman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels – Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Massaponax Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hockney officiating. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
