Samuel West Obituary

Samuel Dale (Sam) West Sr., 81, of Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salem, Va., and formerly of Clifton Forge, Va., died on Sunday , July 5, 2009, at the nursing home. He was born in Alleghany County, Va., on November 24, 1927, a son of the late Givens West Sr. and Violia Nicely West. He worked in construction for most of his life. He served in the United States Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Phillips West, in May of 1999; a son, Samuel West Jr.; sisters, Clara Bell Lewis, Mamie Hall, Kathleen Lewis, Beulah Westerman, and Ezzie Grimes; and brothers, George West, Jim West, and Earnest West. He is survived by a two daughters, Trish Entsminger and her husband, Ron, of Salem, and Lisa Rasnick, of Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister, Mildred Rucker, of Fincastle; a brother, Givens "Gibby" West Jr. and wife, Elsie, of Clifton Forge; grandchildren, Pam Miller, Dale Harris, Faith Rasnick, Hannah Rasnick, Angel Rasnick, and Stephen West; great-grandchildren, Drake Miller and Hannah Winters; stepgreatgrandchildren, Alyssa, Julie, Gia, Ryan, and Devan; a host of nieces and nephews; and many close friends at Clifton Woods Apartments in Clifton Forge. A Funeral Service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Pastor Charlie Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009, from 6 until 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
