John Brown Obituary

John Hundley Brown, 69, of Rocky Mount, Va., died Monday, July 6, 2009. He was born November 29, 1939, a son of the late Baxter Buford and Phoebe Hundley Brown. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Kimbro and Sue Powell. John is survived by his brother, Dick (Gerrie) Brown, of Harrisonburg; sisters, Jane Burrus, of Roanoke, Virginia Brown, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Sally (Bill) Cline, of Graham, N.C.; also many nieces and nephews especially, Rex Burrus, of Boones Mill; and also his special friends at the Herrick House. John was a friend to all, a warm and caring person. He loved bowling, swimming, skiing and all sports. He participated in the Special Olympics over the years and was very proud of all the medals he won. Private graveside services will be conducted at Franklin Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Nora Hunt and all the staff at the Herrick House and Piedmont Community Services for their wonderful, compassionate care over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Herrick House or Piedmont Community Services or a charity of your choice. His family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va., 540-483-3835. www.florafuneralservice.com.

We enjoyed bible school and bowling activities with John. He was so sweet and we just enjoyed being around him.

He will live on in our memories.
