Mildred Browning Obituary

Mildred V. Browning, 81, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. She was born on October 1, 1927, in Argyle, W.Va., daughter of the late Leonard A. and Bertha Jones Vaughan. She was predeceased by a brother; three sisters; and a great-granddaughter, Rachael. Mrs. Browning was the choir director and pianist for Omar Community Church in Omar, W.Va., for 10 years. She moved to Roanoke in 1963 and began her career at Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern as a bookkeeper for 37 years. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She is survived by her twin daughters, Brenda B. Hummel and husband, Jeff, of Richmond, Va., and Linda B. Waltz, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Robin Grove and husband, Brian, Robert Hummel, Anna Creasy and husband, Mike, Elizabeth Mawyer, Susan Jordan and husband, Boyd; and greatgrandchildren, Takoda, Tyler, Isabelle, Therron, and David. Funeral service will be held at the graveside 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Evergreen Burial Park. Pastor Matthew Kirkland will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raleigh Court U.M.C. Music Ministry, 1706 Grandin Road, Roanoke Va. 24015. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.

Dear Linda and Brenda,
We were so sorry to hear about your mom. She was so devoted to her church and such a dear lady. She will be missd by many. We are sure that this is a difficult time but God gets you through and wonderful memories are very comforting. We have been thinking of you and your families.

We are very sorry to learn of Mildred's passing. We have known her for a long time as we both worked with her at Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern. We are members of RCUMC's family and always enjoyed seeing Mildred at church. She was a wonderful person and we will miss her.
