John Hicks Obituary

Mr. John Edward Hicks, 74, of Charlotte, N.C., died on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, peacefully at his home. John was born on January 10, 1935, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Lewis Edward and Bernice Denny Hicks. He was educated in Roanoke attending William Fleming High and National Business College. John also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. John Hicks was employed as an accounting manager by J.P. Stevens. He retired in 1990, and continued to work as a property tax consultant until 1995. He was a member of the Carolina Golf and Country Club where he served on a variety of boards over many years. He attended Forest Hill Church where he married his wife, Marilyn. He will be remembered by his love of golf and gardening. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Carol Hicks. John is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; children, Mike (Teresa) Hicks, and Kathy (Terry) Huntley; and grandchildren, Whitney Hicks and Kalyn Huntley. He leaves behind an extended family that include his sisters, Joan Ansley and Libby Crawford, of Roanoke, Va.; brother, Sterling Hicks, of Charleston, S.C.; as well as Trenna (Pat) McNamara, Kelly (David) Alderman, and Trey (Sandra) Long and their families. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Forest Hill Church located at the South Park Campus, 7224 Park Road, Charlotte, N.C., 704-716-8700. A service of celebration will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009, with Pastor Tom Kakadelis. A visitation is scheduled immediately following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of South Charlotte, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, N.C. 28226.
