Georgie Burton Obituary

Georgie Clara Hoback Burton, 88, passed away August 3, 2009, in Pembroke, Va. She was born February 22, 1921, in Bedford County, Va., to Charlie and Sheffy Sands Hoback. Georgie came to the Sugar Run Community at age six to live with her grandparents, Sylvester and Americus Hoback. She remained in the Sugar Run Community until declining health required her and her husband to join her daughter and son-in-law in their home in Pembroke. Joining her on Sugar Run in 1945 was her beloved husband, Bane Burton, of Bland County. Bane preceded her in death two years ago. Georgie was a member of Thessalia United Methodist Church for 80 years. She taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years. She was a past member of the Homemakers Club and helped organize the Thessalia 4-H Club. Besides her grandparents, parents, and Bane, she was preceded in death by her son, Ernie Burton; a daughter-in-law, Elfriede Burton; a son-in-law, Don Robinson; and seven sisters, (Edna, Mamie, Helen, Ruth, Rubye, Laura Alice, and Louise). She is survived and loved by two sons, William (Bill) Burton, of Waynesville, Mo. and John (Ramona) Burton, of Houston Texas; three daughters, Frances Breedlove (Dick) Croy, of Pembroke, Va., Judy (John) Scherer, of Hinesville, Ga., and Sandy (Steve) Karickhoff, of Hannibal, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Tommy Burton, Waynesville Mo., Linda Hammonds, Lebanon, Mo., Kimberly Langford, Tallahassee, Fla., Adam Burton, Narrows, Va., Joseph Robinson, Moncks Comer, S.C., Ashley Karickhoff, Hannibal, Mo., and Jarrod Burton, Narrows Va. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Nick Burton, Braylon Burton, Rilee Burton, and Madeline Langford; two brothers, Ernest Hoback, of Stuart, Va., and William (Bob) Hoback and wife, Everlene, of Roanoke, Va. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 5, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thessalia United Methodist Church on Sugar Run Road. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Jack Jenkins, the Rev. Paula Campbell and Charles Henderson officiating. Entombment service will be held at Birchlawn Abby, Pearisburg on Thursday at 11 a.m. Those wishing to make memorials may consider the Giles County Bible Bus Program, PO Box 538, Pembroke, Va., 24136. The family is being served by A. Vest and Son Funeral Home, White Gate, Va.

Dear Burton Family,
We were so glad to have gotten to visit with Miss Georgie while in Giles County in May of this year. A lot of good memories were tossed around. Frances & Dick - Thanks for your hospitality and visit. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Sandy, Frances and family: So sorry to hear of Mrs. Burton's passing. She always welcomed me in to visit "Peanut" and prepared tasty meals for us. She was such a loving mother. You're all in my prayers.
