Garfield Shepherd

Garfield Shepherd, 84, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at his home. He was born in Montgomery County, Va. on August 15, 1924, to the late Bud Anderson and Rosa Belle Young Shepherd. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Lynwood Shepherd, Ansel Shepherd, B.A. Shepherd Jr., and Kelly Shepherd; his sisters, Nina Linkous, Lita Gray Linkous, and Hallie Terry. Mr. Shepherd was an avid musician who loved blue grass and country music. He is survived by his daughter, Mavis S. Reed, of Christiansburg; two sons, Barry G. Shepherd, of Christiansburg, and Teddy Dean Shepherd, of Christiansburg; previous wife and mother of Mavis, Barry, Teddy, Ila Agee, of Christiansburg; eight grandchildren, Gina Stike, Michael Poff, Brian Poff, Eddie Shepherd, Dewayne Shepherd, Josh Shepherd, Matt Shepherd and Sarah Shepherd; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Herdron, of Radford, and Barbara Ratcliffe, of Christiansburg; brother and sister-in-law, Levon and Sandra Shepherd, of Ripplemead; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 7, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Marvin Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Memphis, Tenn. 38148-0142. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg, Va.
